Jesus told His disciples in Luke 16 a parable of an unrighteous steward who was shrewd with his Masters treasures.  He then replies, "the people of this world are more shrewd with each other than the people of light".  Why did He tell this story?  He was not telling us to buy our friendships!  He was trying to teach us that even in an ungodly society, people know how to take the good with the bad and still benefit in the end.  I believe that through this parable He is showing us our own ignorance in being unwilling to be shrewd with one another.
